The SEO Framework and keywords
Short answer: Auto Focus Keyword does not support The SEO Framework. This page explains what that means, so you can decide what to do rather than discover it after installing.
What is supported
Auto Focus Keyword writes to four SEO plugins, because it writes to a specific storage location for each one:

This is not a ranking of quality. It is a list of storage locations the plugin knows how to write to. If none of the four is active, Auto Focus Keyword says so and writes nothing, rather than guessing.
Why The SEO Framework is a different case
The SEO Framework handles keyword-based content analysis through a separate extension of its own, called Focus, rather than through a single field in the core plugin. That is a different architecture from the other four, where the target phrase lives in one predictable meta key.
Auto Focus Keyword has no documented integration with that system. We have not built it and we have not tested it, so we do not claim it.
If you are running The SEO Framework and you came here looking for a bulk keyword filler for it, this is not that tool, today.
What your options are
1. Keep The SEO Framework and skip the keyword layer. Entirely reasonable. Most of what The SEO Framework does well, it does without a focus keyword. You lose the ability to run Automatic Internal Links in its normal mode, because that mode reads the keyword layer.
2. Keep The SEO Framework and supply anchors by hand.Manual Links lets you define anchor and destination pairs directly, without depending on a focus keyword field. On a site with a manageable number of key pages, this is a real path, and the anchor text guide covers how to choose those anchors well.
3. Migrate to one of the four supported plugins. A larger decision than internal linking, and it should be made on its own merits, not on ours. If you do migrate, most SEO plugins offer an import routine, and the migration guide covers what to check afterwards.
4. Tell us it matters. Support is a question of demand and of maintenance cost, not of principle. Contact us if The SEO Framework support would change your decision. That signal is more useful than you might expect.
What not to do
Do not run two SEO plugins at once to work around this. Running The SEO Framework alongside Yoast so that one handles output and the other holds keywords creates two sources of truth for the same metadata, and they will disagree. The compatibility notes say the same thing for the same reason.
